We are on the road in Kansas City and the Broncos are on the road in Buffalo. We need to win the last two which would include San Diego next week. We need the Broncos to lose today in order for us to have a chance to win the division. We will be without Darren McFadden and Jacoby Ford, so lets hope the defense steps up this week.

Tommy Kelly To Buffalo Bills: "We Ain't The Chiefs"

By Matt Conner

The Chiefs continue to hear about their loss to the Bills from every direction, which means winning in Detroit is the only thing that will help them turn the page.

Follow @sbnkansascity on Twitter, and Like SB Nation Kansas City on Facebook.

Sep 16, 2011 - The week before the Detroit Lions contest has provided a major wake-up call for the Kansas City Chiefs. Coming off of a 10-win season, the Chiefs were expected to compete atop the AFC West once again for a second straight divisional title and the young core on both sides of the ball gave Chiefs fans high expectations for the years to come. Perhaps some of those are still in place but an abysmal preseason followed by an embarrassing home loss has given everyone involved a reality check.

Apparently the reminders are still coming, even from other teams. As the Raiders prepare to head to Buffalo to face Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bills, defensive lineman Tommy Kelly came out with a declaration to the Bills that they won't go lightly. The bottom line, he says, is that "we ain't the Chiefs." Kelly was respectful overall of the Bills efforts on the road at Arrowhead last week, and locker room talk like this is par for the course. But it means something different in Kansas City.

For the Chiefs, this is about how easily the bubble burst after such a successful season. The Steelers lay an egg and they're still a top team in every Power Rankings list around. The Falcons get beat handily and no one denies their chance to still make the playoffs and contend. The Colts do the same and everything is making excuses because of the one player who isn't there. The Chiefs lose, however, and everyone wants to throw them back into the divisional basement.

It's a long season and the Chiefs have yet to come together in a way that most expected them to do so. But at some point, the Chiefs will get the chance to play Tommy Kelly's Raiders -- twice, actually -- and show what it means to be the Chiefs. At this point, Chiefs fans are hoping it means a lot more than the 34-point beating laid on the team last Sunday.

I think we win, I really do. It comes down to the run game,,if we run as last week,,we win. I don't believe the passing game will come to paly as much as the run and special teams. Chiefs are not a good benchmark but don't tell Buffalo.

Yeah our D is going to be the key- we're going to have to put pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick and control Fred Jackson on the ground. The secondary has to be on their toes. As Ron said our ground game is going to have to be pull through and keep the Bills offense off the field. This is going to be a nice test. Go Raiders!

What a first half by the offense and defense! Campbell is playing great and so is the ground game. Gotta keep up the intensity and focus though to see this one through in the second half.

If you can't tell,,I am very angry at the way the refs turned this one around

Reminds me of the days when we got all the penalties but were good enough to play past them,,not good enough yet

I'm sorry but it is if these refs make it up as they go and pull out the obscure. 15 yards unsporstmanlike for throwing a challange flag you're not allowed to throw. How about just ignore it and tell the coach.....the team you refs all want to win is winning anyhow, you made sure of that.

Ok, I am back, and I am not ever leaving the game again. I am recording but I had leave for awhile. When I left it was 21-3 Raiders. I come back and it is 24-21 Bills. Now that I am back we make a great drive and retake the lead. I think the Radiers need me to be watching.

We were one defensive play away from a victory. Instead a flag sustanied their drive.. to bad. But you are right, it was a proud effort. Now we have 3 tough games in a row, but we are going home.

Damn that was a tough one to swallow. That's the first time I've seen a penalty for a disallowed challenge flag? WTF? Is that really rule? But the defense just fell apart in the second half giving up 35 points. Somebody needed to get in these guy's faces at half time to remind them the game's no over and it's a road game- nobody did apparently.

Reminds me of yesterday's USC game (I am a STH). We get called for one of our guys helmet coming off,,when it was whacked off by a Syracuse player. No penalty for smacking our guy in the head.

I agree,,the refs palyed a big part but our defense has to be better and has to play past the fouls. I find it amazing the Buf had no fouls at all in the 2nd

What a great win today- the guys really kept their composure after being down 17-7 early. And what a difference a week makes for the second half- the offense and RunDMC just took over and the defense kept the Jets to only one TD. That fumble recovery at the end of the 3rd was HUGE.

We've finally arrived!

Seems like everything was clicking today. McFadden with 9 ypc and 171 yds and 2 tds on 19 carries was absolutely unreal. You could just see that the Raiders O-line and DMC were wearing down that Jets D. That was the most rushing yards that the Jets have allowed under Rex Ryan.

I also love how Campbell is playing; very smart, patient and safe. That's exactly what we need in a QB. The prettiest pass of the day though was that pass that he threw down the sideline while on the run to Bush for like 15 yards. That's as accurate as it gets.

The D played okay today too, and the front 7 had crazy pressure on Sanchez, also Chekwa was great today in his first start. And McClain is a tackling machine, he ended up with 12 on the day.

My only complaints are bonehead defensive penalties and dropped picks. If there are no mistakes on defense, I think that the Raiders would have held the Jets to 14/17 points instead of 24.

Can't complain too much though when you get the W over one of the NFL's best teams, and in convincing fashion. Bring on the Pats!

Chekwa did not start. He was pressed into duty, because Michael Huff (concussion), Chris Johnson (hamstring), and Demarcus Van Dyke (knee) were all injured.

That being said, Chekwa was very impressive, giving up two catches to Plaxico, but his coverage was great on both. Chimdi did whiff on a tackle late, but otherwise a nice game for the rookie.

OK, this is the game that will really let us know where we are as a team. New England are 4 pt favorites on out field. If we win this one, it will really put us in the spotlight and we will definitely move up in the power rankings. What do we have to do better in order to win this one?

IMHO this game is ours if we can do agaisnt the PAts what we did not do against the Bills and that is to run run run, keep keep keep (the ball, especially away from Brady) and outplay the refs and their lousy calls. Just play aggressive,,just keep pushing thier O line backwards, just keep Brady on his heels. Preseaosn I had the Pats as the AFC superbolw team but I see they have chinks in their armor now,,,,this can be done.

and PS: and years back in the snow,,,,,,,IT WAS A FUMBLE !!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I was out playing basketball, but I was recording the game and I am a little behind live action but I will catch up. From what I heard on the radio coming in we are playing pretty good, except for th penalties.

Let's recap from my post:

  1. Did we run run run,,,no not really well. Had moments but no long (in terms of the clock) drives

  2. Did we keep keep keep the ball away from Brady,,,no

  3. Did we outplay the refs,,,6 penalties in the 1st quarter and some fake calls and real ones that were ours but they took them back,,so no.

Are we going to win (???).........................I really hate the Pats, thier stupid QB and that cheating SOB coach. He has taught this team well though,,they cheat and get away with it.

And I hate the fact the Chargers are in 1st,,,I hate that team with a passion. But at least thier bandwagon fans in LA didn't get to see the game.

You have to be on top of your game to beat New England. To many penalties. A goal line thrown interception. Another interception later that killed a drive. That is to much to overcome against the Patriots.

Those were absolute killer turnovers, and the defense was subpar. Big game vs the Texans coming up who actually beat the Steelers and are surprising 3 and 1. If we get a victory this team might be for playoff material- otherwise we could be heading for an 8 and 8 season.

Raiders shot themselves in the foot with this one, I think they had a huge chance to win this game and Campbell squandered their chance with that interception in the endzone that caused a 17 point swing in the Pats favor. Not to mention that those freakin penalties by Seymour and the defense didn't help their cause. There were 2 or 3 Patriot drives that could have ended early if it weren't for stupid mistakes.

Then when they try to mount a comeback, that PI call that was reversed absolutely killed them.

The one thing that I did like about the Raiders yesterday, is that they didn't quit and they played to the final whistle. 2 years ago that score would have been 45-13. But they played hard to the end and even stopped the Pats from running up the score on them.

Hopefully the team can rebound from this because it's not gonna get any easier next week in Houston. Campbell better get his crap together, and when he attempts to throw a ball away, just throw it into the crowd. The defense also needs to adjust and get ready, because if a run of the mill RB like Benjarvus Green-Ellis can trample them, they're gonna be in a lot of trouble when they line up against Arian Foster.

Vs HOuston,,,we have become one pathetic team again. NOt one first down and it is almost the half. I am so sick of these penalty calls agianst us but not them. So far every penalty against Hou has been picked up. Time to nut up and play the Raider way,,,,,this is sickening.

Wow no help from the refs today as usual lol. That holding call on Carlisle was bogus and that no call on Joseph during the 2 point conversion attempt was garbage. At least DHB scored right after the "holding" call though.

What a CRAZY exciting game- Huff saved the day there at the end. Looks like Schaub could have ran it in. GREAT win in the wake of Al's death. And just huge win for the season in general- on the road vs a good team.

Lovin' the front page on NFL.com right now.

That was as insane as it gets man. Campbell saw pressure all day and showed a lot of toughness by taking all of those hits and still coming up big in the end. DHB, Huff and Jano all came through today and showed everyone why Al drafted them. And thank God that Branch stepped up on Schaub on that last play. Very emotional ending to the game. That one was for Mr. Davis.

Well obviously that one had me going all day too. Brought me back to my younger days when I went nuts for 3 1/2 hours every Sunday,,,from total disgust to total joy,,back and forth. that one was almost as good as a playoff game or Superbowl for the intensity that I felt me. Those guys stepped up for AL,,,,,,they lived by his mantra.

JUST WIN BABY !!!

Sorry that I abandoned the Raider Nation the last week or so but I am on the Yucatan Pennisula, visiting Cancun. The last couple of days we have been at the Mayan Ruins at Tullum, Coba, and Chinchen Itza. I did get to see a little of the second quarter and the very end of the game. Now I find out we only had 10 men on the field to stop the last play of the game. Whew!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to MrMojo for all the video links, it helped me to get some updates on the game since I missed most of it. Only because it was just another tequila sunrise.

Anyway I will try to find some time to update the other parts of the site. You guys have been doing a great job with the Forum.

I think the only way Oakland loses to Clev is if they do the old,,looking ahead rather then focusing on who your're playing now,,trick. They are pretty hot and with tomorrow being the "honor AL" game,,I think they will turn it on. ANother game where I think paying for Sunday Ticket will pay off,,but for what I pay I could probably fly to Oak and see the games.

But there is a small difference. Over the history of the Raiders we were an awful team as far as penaties,,but a good enough team where it didn't matter. That defense of the 70s could care less aobut penalties. OVer the last decade not so much. The team is starting to get back that swagger and ability to play past the penalties again Not quite there yet,,but getting there (today is not a good benchmark,,CLE is pretty turrible).

Guess that is better then a broken collar bone. I had to go somewhere during halftime and the game started before I got back so I listened on the radio. Flores was guessing a broken bone,,,,,,that would be worse as that would end his season. Dislocate means he could be back in a while (even 1 or 2 weeks with the right chemistry),,,,Pryor, suit up.

Scratch that. Worse nightmare as a Raider fan. Rotoworld has changed their report and says that Campbell now has a broken collarbone and is out for the season.

Quote:
Jason Campbell broke his collarbone in Sunday's game against the Browns and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Well this is bad. Very bad.

Sebastian Janikowski is not practicing and may not be able to play this Sunday because of a hamstring problem. The Raiders have brought in 3 kickers to take a look. This is bad news. Janikowski is one of our most potent offensive weapons. Even with a hammy, he is better than any of the fill-in kickers we could sign.

^ Not good news. He can be most of our ofense in a game like this. We will miss the 50 yarders,,,greatly. This could really affect the outcome of this one. sucks
