Raiders to try out ex-Seahawk WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh

The Oakland Raiders on Tuesday will work out former Seahawks receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, 34, who hasn't played this season after spending 2010 in Baltimore.

There had been plenty of speculation about the Raiders bringing in a veteran wideout to go with their young receivers, and Houshmandzadeh is someone coach Hue Jackson has wanted to see since training camp.

"If I can find a player who kind of knows our system and has been around, I think it buoys everybody else," Jackson said.

Carson Palmer is now the Raiders' starting quarterback. Palmer, while waiting to be traded by the Bengals this season, practiced with Houshmandzadeh.

Houshmandzadeh is coming off his worst season since his rookie campaign of 2001. He caught 30 passes for 398 yards " the second lowest totals of his career " and three touchdowns for the Ravens last season.

Houshmandzadeh had at least 900 receiving yards in six of nine NFL seasons. The last was in 2009, when he had 911 receiving yards for the Seahawks.

Raiders safety Chinedum Ndukwe said "The Housh" is a "born leader."

"He might not be the fastest guy, he might not look like the greatest athlete, but he gets it done," Ndukwe said. "I don't think there's any better in the league in the slot, for sure."

If they do bring him in, it'll definitely be just to add a familiar face on the team for Carson Palmer. At 34 years old, I don't think Houshamama has that much left.

Carson must be looking for someone he can recognise.

Yeah he's actually been signed. I've got no complaints- whatever to help get Carson to throw TDs and fewer INTs.

Having a WR that Carson Palmer spent several seasons with, back when he had some of his greatest sucess, has got to be a good thing. We probably spend chump change to bring him in, and with his leadership abilities and being a good locker room guy, I don't think we have much to lose here.

Anything to have Palmer more comfortable I guess....
