Right about now is when NFL teams start looking at the big picture. From a team standpoint some squads, like the Oakland Raiders, are looking to the postseason. With regards to those playoff aspirations, teams like the Raiders must also decide which players are best to help the team reach their goals.
Today the Raiders decided that Ohio State rookie Chimdi Chekwa just wasn’t going to be able to get right in time to help the team during the playoff push. Chekwa’s nagging hamstring injury has earned him a spot on the Injured Reserve effective ending his rookie season with just four games as his NFL body of work.
Chekwa missed some valuable practice and game time during the preseason so this roster move only cofounds his rookie frustrations. In his brief moments on the field for the Silver and Black Chekwa did show some promise including getting a start against the New England Patriots. His lone start would also be his last action as he injured his hamstring in the contest.
Oakland singed free agent corner Bryan McCann to replace Chekwa. Go ahead and add another name to the growing list of Oakland DBs in 2011.
McCann has some NFL experience having played for both the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens over the course of this season and last. No word on whether or not McCann will be active in Minnesota on Sunday.
