Hope you guys don't mind I post these,,I really don't know how I ended up on the San Fransico Chronicle's email list but I am. ANyhow:

Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said a lot of things during training camp. Revisiting them now, winning the AFC West is actually still possible, the "building a bully" not so much, and the part about fixing the penalty issue and run defense - not even close.

Jackson went so far in August as to say he thought Oakland had the players to be an elite defense. The poor guy never saw coming the five games in which the Raiders gave up an average of 216 rushing yards or the 28 touchdown passes allowed.

Overall, the Raiders' defense ranks 27th in the league and gives up 5.1 yards per carry and 27.3 points per game (fourth-worst in the league). On Sunday, the Raiders gave up 14 points in the final five minutes to lose 28-27 to the Lions.

Surprise you, Hue?

"Yeah. It does," Jackson said. "I'm not going to run from that question. Yes, it does. It's not what I was expecting. The players know that and the coaches know that. We've got two games to get it right and play as well as we can play."
