IMHO the defensive cooridinator needs to go

Raiders coach Hue Jackson let his players have it, and there is a good chance he has a pink slip to give defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan as well.

The Raiders are 1-7 when they give up more than 135 yards rushing, and they're also not good against the pass, as they showed in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

"I think Chuck knows how I feel," Jackson said. "I'm disappointed. I have been. It's not like we haven't had conversations. Chuck knows what I feel, and it's not good enough."

Jackson was asked if Bresnahan would be back for a second year and said, "I'm not going to answer that right now."

Earlier, he said, "There's going to be a lot of adjustments that we have to make."

Record setter: Rock Cartwright's hold on the second-half kickoff was no ordinary hold. It gave the Raiders the NFL single-season records for both penalties and yards penalized.

They finished the game with eight for 64 yards, giving them 163 for 1,358 yards for the season. That surpassed the totals of 158 for 1,304 set by the 1998 Chiefs.

Jackson was asked if the penalties were part of the reason the Raiders were not in the playoffs.

"Absolutely," he said. "There's no question it is. There were a couple other games that maybe you win. There's a couple times that maybe you get them off the field if you don't have the penalties. It's a problem. ... I never said that this was going to be easy. I know this is not what Coach (Al) Davis left me to do, I know that. I got a lot of work to do."

Turner the spoiler: Former Raiders coach Norv Turner is rumored to be done as Chargers coach, but had his team ready to play the role of spoiler. He didn't do any lobbying after the win.

"I don't need to answer that," Turner said. "There's going to be a decision made, and you'll all know what it is. And what my opinion is right now probably doesn't have a lot of effect. I'll leave it at that."

Jackson didn't shake Turner's hand after the game, but said he had no hard feelings.

"No, we talked earlier," Jackson said. "Me and Norv have a good relationship."

Jackson said he was just angry. "I needed to get inside. I didn't want to be harassed by people. I have the utmost respect for Norv, and Norv knows that. ... He came in here and kicked our tails."

Fan taken to hospital: A 17-year-old fan was taken to the hospital as a precaution after falling about 10 feet from the stands after the game. The team says Juan Salceto never lost consciousness and was able to move all of his extremities. He was leaning over the railing trying to catch the attention of the players when he lost his balance and fell over the railing.

Briefly: Michael Bush, after a great start, finished with only 66 yards on 19 carries - leaving him 19 yards short of 1,000 for the season. ... Mark Davis lit the eternal flame honoring his father, late owner Al Davis, before the game. ... Rivers became the fifth player in NFL history with back-to-back 4,500-yard seasons.

Last word: "This is definitely a very good defense," Raiders cornerback Stanford Routt said. "Obviously, every defense has its mishaps."

Real last word: "Let me tell you something: I'm going take a stronger hand in this whole team, this whole organization," Jackson said. "There ain't no way that I'm going to feel like I feel today a year from now. I promise you that. Defensively, offensively and special teams. This is a joke. ... Yeah, I'm going to take a hand in everything that goes on here."

Hue Jackson has been Mr Easy Going all season long.........at least untill that press conference. Now there is not going to be anymore Mr Nice Guy. The defense has got to get much better and next season. Anytime any player makes a dumbell penalty, he should be removed from the game and not come back. It is the only way you can make an impression on these guys. Penalties for being agressive is another matter. But lining up in the nuetral zone......come on man......personal fouls for whatever......come on man......horsecaller........come on man.......delay of game on a field goal try?????? The penalties for being stupid just have to end. Forest Gump put it best when he said "Stupid is as stupid does."

What blew me away was when they showed the chart of the top 1 most penalized teams in NFL history, that we had 8 of the 10 slots. Com'on man,,,there is being tough and there is being ignorant. You can be ignorant when you are good enough to play past your penalites,,right now you are not that good.

The new GM can't justify his salary unless he is able to identify the weaknesses in the Raiders. Defense and penalties are the Raider killers. He will focus on rebuilding the defense with a new coordinator and turn the coach loose on penalizing players that make stupid, as opposed to agressive, penalties.
