Report: Seymour, Huff restructure deals to get Raiders closer to cap

The Raiders added a year to defensive tackle Richard Seymour’s contract and two to safety Michael Huff’s contract, lowering their salaries this season, to save $11.8 million off the salary cap. Oakland remains roughly $10 million over the cap, and are waiting to see if linebacker Kamerion Wimbley will take a pay cut.

Seymour’s new deal, according to Mac’s Football Blog, is now for five years for $37.5 million. He originally restructured his two-year deal last August. Seymour was due to get $15 million this season, and he received $7.5 million as a roster bonus last month. The other $7.5 million is now down to the league minimum salary of $925,00 with remaining $6.575 million converted to a guaranteed roster bonus that will be treated as a signing bonus.

According to Brian McIntyre, the move reduces Seymour’s cap number from $14.068 million to $8.808 million. His cap numbers in 2013-15 will increase from $17.818 million to $19.133 million.

The Raiders aren’t commenting on their salary-cap moves, and agents for the two players have not returned calls.

Huff, who signed a four-year, $32 million contract extension last August, how has a five-year, $40 million deal.

Under the restructured contract, Huff’s base salary base salary was reduced from $4 million to $700,000, with the remaining $3.3 million combined with his $4 million roster bonus to create a guaranteed $7.3 million roster bonus that will be treated like a signing bonus. Two additional years with $4 million base salaries and $4 million roster bonuses were added to allow the 2012 guaranteed roster bonus to be prorated over five seasons.

Huff’s restructured contract lowers his cap number from $9.828 million to $3.988 million.

Raiders restructure contracts with Palmer, Seymour, Huff to attempt to get under salary cap

Quote:
ALAMEDA, Calif. " The Oakland Raiders have restructured the contracts of quarterback Carson Palmer, defensive tackle Richard Seymour and safety Michael Huff to try to get under the salary cap.

The team announced the new deals Thursday.

The Raiders did not reveal terms of the new contracts but Mac’s Football Blog reported that the team would save more than $11 million against the 2012 cap by extending the deals for Seymour and Huff. Palmer had a $12.5 million base salary for 2012 before the new deal.

The Raiders were reportedly more than $20 million over the projected salary cap before putting a franchise tag on safety Tyvon Branch that is expected to be about $6.2 million.

All teams need to be under the salary cap by next Tuesday.
