Raiders RB Goodson leaves field on stretcher after neck injury

NAPA -- Raiders running back Mike Goodson suffered a neck injury in practice Tuesday after an apparent helmet-to-helmet collision with linebacker Philip Wheeler.

Goodson, 25, stayed down on the field for approximately 15 minutes while being attended to by trainers and paramedics. He was strapped to a backboard after having his facemask removed. Goodson was observed moving his legs before being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.

"I texted him, told him I was going to pray for him," Wheeler said. “I don’t think it was helmet to helmet. I’ve got to look at it. It was just a bang-bang play. I’m just going to pray for him. I didn’t mean to do it. I didn’t mean to hurt him."

This sounds baaaaad. I hope that Goodson is okay. He was looking very solid in camp too. Let's hope Taiwan Jones is ready to step it up.

Looks like he is going to be fine. But I am not sure he is going to be able to fill Bush's shoes.

Man that was scary but thankfully it looks like he's going to okay. Looks like we'll see what Lonyae Miller's got now. Too bad we couldn't come to terms with Bush.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports Raiders RB Mike Goodson (neck) is "doing well and expected to be fine."

Goodson was taken to the hospital following a helmet-to-helmet collision with LB Philip Wheeler in Tuesday's practice, but quickly regained feeling in his extremities. It's unclear if he's suffered a concussion. Competing with Taiwan Jones for the Raiders' No. 2 job, Goodson won't suit up for Monday's preseason opener, but could be ready for Oakland's second exhibition tilt next Friday. The Contra Costa Times reported Monday Goodson was continuing to "assert himself" as Darren McFadden's primary backup.
