Six points. Four straight three-and-outs in the third quarter. Zero impact for the third time in four games for a healthy Darren McFadden, one of the top 10 running backs in the league. Carson Palmer couldn't get the no-huddle working with the crowd noise, but he did hit his first deep pass of the season. For some reason, Dennis Allen left him on the field for garbage-time hits.

Where to begin. ... The line didn't touch Peyton Manning, and he might have skipped a postgame shower; he had such an easy day. Linebacker Rolando McClain looked unenergetic and lost at times again, and the Michael Huff-to-cornerback emergency shift is not helping. Somewhere, ex-coordinator Chuck Bresnahan smiled and said maybe the defensive scheme wasn't the only problem last season.

A Shane Lechler punt was blocked - even if it wasn't officially blocked - when Brandon Myers got pushed back and was reached over. Sebastian Janikowski made his two field-goal attempts, and there were no returns - eight touchbacks on kickoffs and no Denver punts - but this unit gets a bad grade because it hangs out with bad apples.

Allen said he doesn't know why his team is getting hammered in the third quarter every week. He has a long list of things to consider. Defensive coordinator Jason Tarver couldn't figure out how to get pressure on Manning. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp's run game stinks, and why did he have Palmer running play-action when the Broncos weren't biting. All he was doing was turning his QB's back to the coverage.

The Raiders are lucky not to be 0-4. They can't get pressure on the quarterback, can't really stop the run or cover receivers, can't run the ball, can't throw the ball deep and freeze on third downs offensively and defensively. The bye week is next, then the unbeaten Falcons. The team's hopes suddenly are pinned on the return of cornerbacks Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer and linebacker Aaron Curry. That's not good.
