The Black Hole is a new weekly feature that gives you a quick read on the latest news, rumors, or updates on the Raiders.
This will be the game that you need to Remember. It is the game that Carson Palmer became a Raider. It is the game that Denarious Moore emerged as one of the best WR's in the league. It is the game that Michael Bush declared that he is not only the best running back in the league named Bush, but he just may be the best running back on the Raiders and in the NFL period.
We have seen other games where Bush emerged. But he has been playing second fiddle to RunDMC who was leading the NFL in rushing before he got injured.....again. Where McFadden is your consumate finesse running back, Bush is a power monster who just wears you down, runs you over, and demolishes you along the way.
Bush ran a career-high 30 times for 157 yards and one touchdown, and also had three catches for 85 yards. His 242 yards from scrimmage are the most by any Raider since the AFL-NFL merger and the fourth-highest total in Raiders team history. He passed Bo Jackson's 1987 total of 235 yards from scrimmage against the Seattle Seahawks.
Having RunDMC injured is painful for the Raider Nation. But having Michael Bush available to step up and give Pro Bowl performances, certainly takes the pain away.
Meanwhile, Carson Palmer became a Raider last night. He was in control of the game and control of his team. Palmer was 14 of 20 for 299 yards, with one interception. He threw touchdown passes of 33 and 26 yards to Denarious Moore in his second start and third appearance since being acquired in a trade with Cincinnati. He was agressive in throwing down field and has apparently found his favorite target in Denarious Moore. This Palmer to Moore combo is a key to our making the playoffs and moving on to the SuperBowl.
Denarious Moore has suddenly emerged as the leading WR for the Raiders. DHB hasn't caught a ball in two games. He didn't play much to weeks ago and didn't even have a ball throw his way last night. Meanwhile, Moore is going deep, getting open, and making plays. It's not just that he is catching the ball, it is how he is doing it. His fingertip catch last night is a catch that DHB could only dream of. DHB will come back, but will Palmer want to throw much to him with his favorite target on the field.....Moore. Moore had 5 catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a nice 21 yard punt return before the two touchdowns. And remember, he is only a rookie.
The defense finally stepped up and did a good job of stopping the run. Our zone defense in the backfield still creates gaps where opposing WR's seem to be just wide open. However, the Raiders latest reclamation project, Kamerion Wembly, had 4 of the Raiders 7 sacks in the game.
Our next game is on the road against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday November 20. We have 10 days to prepare and with McFadden, Ford, and Janikowski all hurting, the extra time will certainly help.
